Designer Christian Lacroix has been chosen to create a couture collection as a tribute to Elsa Schiaparelli. The 15-piece collection will be unveiled in July during Haute Couture Week in Paris and will be showcased at 21 Place Vendôme, where Schiaparelli’s original workshop was located. Each of the unique pieces by Lacroix is expected to be reinterpretations of the late designer’s most famous creations.
The couture collection will also be complemented by contributions from different artists. In addition, an annual “rendez-vous” will be held, during which contemporary artists and creatives will be asked to give their interpretation of the late designer.
The House of Schiaparelli shuttered in the 1950s with rumours that Elsa had gone bankrupt. The label was set to be re-launched earlier this year in January but the date has been postponed given the absence of a lead designer as yet.
