For the 2013 edition of the Singtel Formula One Singapore Grand Prix, the creative director of local fashion label evenodd's, Samuel Wong (also a fellow SENATUS member), along with title sponsor Singtel, have unveiled the new uniforms for the grid girls who will be hosting the annual street race in Singapore.
This is the first time a PARCO next NEXT designer is appointed to outfit the SingTel Grid Girls.
Although it is a challenge for Samuel as a menswear designer to design the grid outfit for the F1 SingTel Grid Girls, he was thrilled to be selected as the winning designer from a shortlist of 6 others from PARCO next NEXT.
“It felt really great! Being a menswear only designer, designing for women this time is a whole new level for me. And best of all, it was to make 'sporty' fashionable too." added Samuel.
Red, white and black, the colours of SingTel and the national flag, are all cleverly incorporated into Samuel’s design of a sleek hem dress. The asymmetric hemline creates a sporty appearance, with the smooth and clean silhouette inspired by the sleekness of the F1 racing cars. The dress is further accentuated by black and white panels and a contemporary zippered neckline with Bomber Jacket-style collar.
Instead of the usual boots that accompanied the uniforms of previous seasons, this year’s F1 SingTel Grid Girls will wear sneakers, an idea proposed by Samuel to further underline a coherent theme of sporty luxury.
