Marc Jacobs’ spring 2014 collection opened with a surprising showcase of wool jackets and sweatshirts in autumnal tones. Some of the silhouettes call to mind Jacobs’ fall 2011 collection with their sculpted shoulders, but instead of polka dots; military accents, leaf shapes or Victorian inspired patterns adorned the bulky designs. Playing with summer wear motifs, Jacobs also sent out Hawaiian print tops and Bermuda shorts with sandals. Models walked the runway with matching sheared blonde wigs adding an androgynous element to the designs. However, there was nothing boyish about the evening wear which dripped with sequins, tassels and fringe for a slightly gothic element to an already dark and sumptuous showing.
