Ralph & Russo 1st British Brand in Over 100 Years at Haute Couture Week
By SENATUS News | 27 January 2014

Ralph & Russo chose to return to the Golden Age of haute couture for their catwalk debut at the semi-annual couture showcase in Paris. Their elegant, romantic collection channelled the 1940s and '50s, with nipped-in waists, peplum jackets and full-skirted New Look silhouettes. The duo said that the collection was a labour of love for them and their team, who are based in London. For the opening ensemble, a white column dress with cape, the embroidery alone took 1,800 hours to complete. The finale bridal gown, with tiered full skirt, took 15 people to create and included 200m of fabric.

"I think that has always been part of the DNA of Ralph & Russo," Ralph said after the show.

"We also wanted to pay a little bit of homage to France because it's such an honour to show here. Some of the embroidery was inspired by French gardens, and there was a mix of structure and softness, the romantic and classic."
