Argentina wins FIFA World Cup 2022, Lionel Messi caps tournament with Golden Ball

Argentina has won its third World Cup after a 36 year wait, adding a new star onto its emblem in 2022, after the Maradona-led victory in Mexico in 1986 and on its homeground with Mario Kempes in 1978.

This time round, Lionel Messi with an unprecedented 5 man of the match awards received the Golden Ball as best player of the tournament, scored two goals in the World Cup final against France, which had to come back from 2 goals down against the Sound th American side, then pulled one back again in extra time to take the match to a penalty shootout.

Argentina, with destiny on its side as well as the impressive Golden Hands-winning goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, prevailed 4-2, writing itself into the history books in Qatar.
