TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph x Gulf captures racing heritage and cinematic legend
By SENATUS Magazine | 20 June 2025

Some watches mark the passage of time. Others capture it—holding within their case not just mechanical brilliance but the resonance of an era, the thrill of motorsport, and the aura of cinematic cool. Enter the new TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph x Gulf, a bold, limited-edition tribute to racing heritage, legendary style, and the film that immortalized an icon.

Limited to 971 pieces, this new Monaco pays homage to 1971 — the year Steve McQueen wore the original Monaco in the move Le Mans, forever fusing TAG Heuer with motorsport lore and Hollywood legacy. Partnered once again with Gulf, TAG Heuer reconnects with the era’s spirit, where Porsche 917Ks roared down the Mulsanne Straight and style was defined by grit, oil, and adrenaline.

This release comes at a pivotal moment: the prestigious Formula 1 Grand Prix de Monaco now bears TAG Heuer’s name as title sponsor — a powerful signal of the brand’s ever-deepening bond with the racing world. And this watch? It’s the physical manifestation of that bond, a bridge between past and present.

At the heart of the Monaco x Gulf is the storied Calibre 11, faithful to the original 1969 layout with its left-side crown and bold rectangular case. The dial is rendered in a refined grained silver, a clean stage for the unmistakable Gulf stripes — vivid orange and light blue — which streak vertically across the face, echoing McQueen’s racing suit and the livery of his 917K. The vintage Heuer logo sits proudly above the hands, a subtle but essential nod to the original era.

The Gulf logo at 6 o’clock seals the connection. It’s not just decoration; it’s history worn on the wrist. Jo Siffert, McQueen’s driving coach and Heuer’s first brand ambassador, made the original connection between man, machine, and Monaco. His influence — both on the screen and off — lingers in every polished surface of this timepiece.

More than just a chronograph, the TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph x Gulf is a symbol of rebellion, racing, and storytelling. It’s a watch that reminds us that icons aren’t made by time — they make it. And in this latest edition, the Monaco once again races ahead, with style, purpose, and unmistakable cool.
