Montblanc Star Legacy Nicolas Rieussec Chronograph - writing time, reimagined in gree
By SENATUS Magazine | 27 August 2025

Montblanc revisits horological history with a contemporary flourish, unveiling the Star Legacy Nicolas Rieussec Chronograph in a bold new palette of stainless steel and green sfumato. At 43mm, the case commands presence without losing elegance, while the vertical gradient dial and matching interchangeable strap breathe modern vibrancy into a classic form.

The chronograph’s story traces back to 1821, when Nicolas Rieussec — watchmaker to the French royal court — presented his revolutionary “inking chronograph” at the horse races. By recording elapsed time with a literal trace of ink, he gave the world its first chronograph and, with it, a new way of capturing speed and competition.

Montblanc honours this legacy with the same distinctive layout: twin horizontally aligned counters for 60 seconds and 30 minutes, rotating beneath a fixed index like mechanical theatre. Around them, refined details abound — a Clous de Paris guilloché pattern, silver counters, baton indexes, and luminous Dauphine hands paired with a skeletonized second time zone hand. A discreet day/night indicator completes the ensemble, marrying utility with poise.

At its heart lies Montblanc’s Manufacture monopusher chronograph calibre MB R200 — the Maison’s first in-house movement, self-winding and meticulously engineered for precision. It is not simply a chronograph; it is a celebration of ingenuity past and present, an object where heritage and innovation write time together.
