Glashütte Original and Meissen unite for a masterpiece of precision and poetry
By SENATUS Magazine | 28 November 2025

Two masters of their trade have come together to celebrate the very finest in German craftsmanship. The watchmaker Glashütte Original and the MEISSEN porcelain manufactory have joined forces for a very special project inspired by a long-standing friendship. These three limited-edition wristwatches feature delicately painted porcelain dials and combine the values of both brands to form a timeless work of precision and poetry. Framed by an elegant red gold case, the timepieces serve as an homage to exceptional quality down to the tiniest detail and human creativity.

The collaboration is a true tale of two cities where the partners act as guardians of a craft heritage nurtured for many generations. In 2025, Glashütte Original celebrates 180 years of watchmaking while MEISSEN looks back on 315 years of history as Europe’s first porcelain manufactory. This partnership is a meeting of like-minded actors whose experience and design expertise find expression in three unique timepieces.

Every Senator Meissen serves as a miniature work of art where a 40 mm red gold case frames hand-painted dials. The hour and minute displays are reduced to a minimum to allow the two gently curved red gold hands to cede pride of place to the decoration. The dials are fashioned from razor-thin porcelain discs which are first fired at 1,400 degrees Celsius and subsequently examined to ensure a perfectly flat surface. Decoration and Roman numerals are applied by hand with fine brushes in several layers before being fired again at 900 degrees Celsius to achieve the desired depth of colour.

The new collection offers three distinct dial designs for the discerning collector. The first variant is a limited edition of 150 pieces and presents the ornamental Mystic Maison in delicate grey against a flawless white ground. A second version with identical decoration evokes the origins of porcelain art through a green celadon ground which refers to ceramic objects produced in China as far back as the 9th century. The third model features a collage that picks up on iconic motifs from the MEISSEN Dekorwelten crater vase and is produced in a limited edition of only eight pieces.

Ticking beneath the porcelain dials lies the art of Glashütte watchmaking at its best. The Calibre 36 manufactory movement combines exquisite mechanics with modern user-friendliness including bi-directional automatic winding and a running time of 100 hours. The carefully executed finishes offer a refined counterpoint to the aesthetics of the porcelain and are easily admired through the sapphire crystal case back. Even the smallest details are elaborately finished by hand including the bevelled edges and the tiny blued screws.
