The intersection of high fashion and high performance has always been a space of electric creativity, and this August, a new dialogue between power and precision emerges from the ateliers of Girard-Perregaux. In a stunning continuation of their partnership with the legendary British marque, the Swiss Manufacture presents the Laureato Skeleton Aston Martin Edition, a timepiece that feels less like a mere accessory and more like a piece of mechanical choreography for the wrist.
While the silhouette subscribes to the iconic design codes of the inaugural Laureato from 1975, this new iteration is decidedly modern in its material execution. The case and integrated bracelet are sculpted entirely from black ceramic, a material renowned for being seven times harder than steel and incredibly resistant to scratching. Beyond its durability, the ceramic offers a tactile experience that is lightweight, hypoallergenic, and supremely smooth against the skin. The finish is a masterclass in texture, as the iconic octagonal bezel features circular satin finishing that contrasts beautifully with the horizontal satin finishing of the case.
The true drama of this timepiece, however, lies in its transparency. Unlike traditional watches that hide their secrets behind closed dials, the Laureato Skeleton Aston Martin Edition offers an uncompromising view of its expertise through a dramatic openworked structure. The in-house GP01800 calibre is revealed in all its architectural glory, featuring a black PVD-treated mainplate and bridges that have been meticulously finished by hand. The movement showcases 55 hand-crafted internal angles which serves as a testament to true watchmaking artistry.
Aesthetically, the watch draws a parallel to the sleek lines and technical sophistication of Aston Martin’s finest supercars. The hours and minutes are indicated by skeletonized hands and suspended indexes that have been finished in a captivating green coating reminiscent of the carmaker's iconic Racing Green. This verdant hue is not merely decorative, as it bestows a green emission in dim light to ensure peerless readability. Even the skeletonized solid gold rotor is executed in this same racing-inspired shade, allowing light to flood through the openworked calibre to highlight its depth.
The attention to detail extends to the smallest elements, such as the small skeletonized seconds hand discreetly positioned at 10 o'clock and the sapphire caseback adorned with a metallized Aston Martin logo. This fusion of horology and automotive engineering is powered by a variable inertia balance that ensures precision and a power reserve of 54 hours. Available worldwide at Girard-Perregaux retailers, the Laureato Skeleton Aston Martin Edition is a refined fusion of two worlds that proves true style is instantly recognizable.
