Hublot has introduced a limited edition timepiece that honors the Lunar New Year through a sophisticated blend of material innovation and cultural symbolism. The Spirit of Big Bang Year of the Horse Frosted Carbon is restricted to just 88 pieces, making it a rare collector's item that celebrates the ambitious energy of the horse. This release follows a tradition of commemorative Lunar New Year pieces that the brand has maintained since 2016.
The dial serves as a canvas for a striking horse motif inspired by the artistry of the Tang dynasty. To create this visual signature, Hublot utilized hand-laid carbon marquetry paired with 3N gold-plated brass appliqués. Every fragment of carbon is meticulously cut and aligned by hand to form a design that mirrors the intricate embroidery of ancient Chinese ceremonial robes.
The 42 mm tonneau-shaped case is crafted from matte black carbon, providing an assertive and modern silhouette. A black lacquer base adds a layer of depth to the design, while the smoked sapphire caseback allows for a subtle view of the internal mechanics. The watch is paired with a black calf-rubber strap that reinforces its bold identity.
At the heart of this creation is the MHUB1710 self-winding movement, a high-performance calibre that ensures precision and endurance. It offers a power reserve of approximately 50 hours, reflecting the constant momentum and spirit of the horse. The engineering behind the watch is further highlighted by the use of black-plated titanium screws and a tungsten openwork rotor.
Hublot continues to challenge convention by turning high-performance materials into a form of engineered art. By fusing tradition with a revolutionary mindset, the Swiss manufacture creates objects that redefine the geometries of time.
