Guangzhou in China plays host to CHANEL's third Culture Chanel exhibition. Forget the Louvre; China’s Guangzhou Opera House just topped our must-visit destination for 2013. The theatre will play host to Chanel’s third Culture Chanel exhibition, exhibiting Pablo Picasso’s work for the Ballets Russes ballet Le Train Bleu (The Blue Train).
The celebrated artist created the stage backdrop for the recital in 1924, working alongside the show’s costume designer, Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel.
Drawing from Picasso’s backdrop creation, the exhibit revolves around five themes: Breathe, Move, Love, Dream and Invent – and will house more than 400 works. Photographs, paintings, manuscripts, books, films and design creations from Chanel’s past and present creative directors are just some of the works on show.
Of particular note, the exhibit will include a series of previously unseen drawings by Picasso from a private collection, and portraits of the dancers, drawn by famed Italian painter Amedeo Modigliani, are scattered among the works.
The exhibit runs from January 16 to March 3, 2013, at the Guangzhou Opera House in China.
