Margot Robbie Fronts Chanel's Coco Neige Collection, the Label's 1st Full-Fledged Winter Sports Clothing Line

25 July 2018

By Tricia Oliveira

Chanel has launched its its first full-fledged winter sports clothing line. Aptly named Coco Neige, Coco for the reference to founder Coco Chanel, obviously, while Neige translates to snow in English.

Chanel dabbling in snow tech is nothing new - the brand already produces its own skis and snowboards - but this marks its first extensive collection.

Coco Neige features performance garments well-equipped for skiing with water and windproof qualities, whilst also imbued with house codes of tweed, quilting, and camellia motifs — ranging jackets, gilets, balaclavas, ski trousers and goggles.

The après assortment includes booties in Chanel's iconoclastic two-tone trope, mittens and berets; even the bags take on the line's winter ethos. The 11.12 gets a down-filled remake, while backpacks and shopper bags in nylon and shearling come quilted.

Slated to hit this month, the ad campaign shot by Karl Lagerfeld stars Australian actress Margot Robbie in pieces from the inaugural 19-silhouette collection.

"This shoot was one of the greatest experiences of my career," said Robbie. "The energy and vibe on set was so wonderful and collaborative. One of the first things Karl Lagerfeld said to me was that we never need to take ourselves too seriously."

She continued: "He has such a creative mind and he knows exactly what he wants and the minute he captured it, we were moving onto the next shot. It was amazing. Karl Lagerfeld is a creative mastermind. I already knew he was a genius but to be able to spend time with him in person, I now know he is also just a wonderful human being.”
