CHI CHI VON TANG Fall 2016 Collection Inspired by Tribal Women of Myanmar

12 April 2016

The style and strength of the tribal women in Myanmar have inspired the Fall/Winter 2016/2017 collection for CHI CHI VON TANG, reveals designer Lisa Crosswhite.

Set for an official unveiling on 13 April, the second collection from the budding label will showcase its street-luxe interpretation of the tribal aesthetic.

"I was inspired by the unique women of the tribes -- they were dressed in toga-style tops, belted with beads, layers of coin chains, hand-loomed turbans, and artisan silver cuffs..."

"They would dress up every day like this, just to complete menial labour and then go to sleep in bamboo huts... There is a cultural and personal pride in that. The women were so strong," elaborates Crosswhite.

Expect to see thirty new looks including flowing long jackets in rustic silk, panels of handwoven tribal prints, textured linens for the tundra, on unapologetically sexy and strong silhouettes, as well as the best-seller from the current collection, the CHI CHI WARRIOR BOMBER, already seen on celebrities from Mick Jagger, Eve, to Natalia Imbruglia.

The occasion will also mark the sneak preview of a photography exhibition featuring the works of Noelia Madiedo (US) and Jens Uwe Parkitny (Germany), providing the context of the inspiration for the collection.

The exhibition will then take place from 15 April to 15 June, alongside pieces exhibited at the Gnossem studio at Kampong Bugis, and the CHI CHI VON TANG store at Scotts Square.
