Greubel Forsey GMT Earth #SIHH2018

25 February 2018

By Peter Vossner

With the new GMT Earth, Greubel Forsey challenged itself to present a comprehensive, three-dimensional view of the terrestrial globe, from the North to the South Poles, all this within a timepiece.

A breathtaking 360° view of planet Earth was achieved by an original movement architecture in relation to the case shape and dimensions. Indeed, revealing the entire terrestrial globe required complex application of sapphire crystal.

The three-dimensionality first appears at the highest point of the dial, with the hour, minute and small seconds indications. GMT indication is read with a triangular red hand, while the power reserve indication is displayed by a long, slender hand.

On the lowest part of the dial, the globe is presented next to the Tourbillon 24 Secondes, Greubel Forsey’s famed 3rd pivotal invention.

Three time zones can be viewed simultaneously to within a quarter of an hour on the dial, while on the case back, 24 time zones are displayed with the summer and winter times to complement the universal time indicated by the terrestrial globe.

The proportions of the case were constructed to accommodate the high-domed sapphire crystal bezel and the special artistry on the caseband. Engraved inscriptions that encapsulate the key values of founders Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey can be found all around the case body.

The GMT Earth in white gold is limited to 33 pieces.
