This year marks the 85th anniversary of Jaegar-LeCoultre's signature swivelling watch, instantly recognizable with its iconic rectangular Art Deco case.
At Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) watch fair held earlier in January, the watch manufacture unveiled a unique collaboration with legendary shoe designer Christian Louboutin.
Atelier Reverso which allows the consumer to imagine and design his or her own customizable Reverso wristwatch using an online configurator currently available in Jaeger-LeCoultre boutiques, was showcased with Louboutin presenting his unique creations.
Guided by his imagination, the designer has found new ways to bring to the forefront once again the beauty of this emblematic watch and revealing new aspects of its personality.
Using sticky tape, glue, pencils, material samples as his prototype scraps, Louboutin combines colours and materials with an artist's instinctive flair and sees immediately if the result is right.
The covered galleries of Paris, the carved wood lattice work of North Africa, oriental stones, all formed the basis of inspiration for his shoe collections and for the new Reverso models.
Each Reverso seen by Christian Louboutin reveals an unexpected aspect of the watch, playing with classical design codes while respecting its identity.
Available in two sizes, the Reverso Classic Duetto chosen for this transformation retains its iconic face on the front, with pure, classical Art Deco lines, while the back, framed by two rows of diamonds on either side of the dial, takes on a delightfully crazy touch infused by Christian Louboutin.
Like the carapace of a scarab beetle, one creation is adorned with an iridescent dial and strap. Tilting it towards the sun enables the eye to marvel at the range of greens, blues and purples offering subtle nuances one could never imagine when the watch is immobile.
Another is fitted with a transparent plastic strap that makes a perfect match with the mirror-style back dial.
Finally, another model features a textured white mother-of-pearl dial. It is teamed with a strap subtly hinting at the imprint of the iconic Louboutin shoes.
These few pieces offer a glimpse of the rich, mischief-filled universe that Christian Louboutin has dreamt up around the Reverso.
