The RM 43-01 Tourbillon Split-Seconds Chronograph Ferrari represents the latest milestone in the partnership between Richard Mille and Ferrari, redefining high-complication watchmaking.
This collaboration seamlessly integrates the expertise of Maranello and Les Breuleux, resulting in a revolutionary timepiece that reflects the essence of both brands.
A Milestone of Collaboration
Limited to 150 pieces, the RM 43-01 is available in microblasted and polished grade 5 titanium with a Carbon TPT® caseband, as well as an all-Carbon TPT® variant. Ferrari’s Centro Stile played a crucial role in shaping the watch’s aesthetic, ensuring that key elements such as the crown, hands, and strap incorporate Ferrari’s distinct design DNA.
The watch’s movement features a titanium plate engraved with the iconic Cavallino logo, inspired by the rear wing of the Ferrari 499P. Its three-dimensional design, enhanced by multiple surface treatments and contrasting details, mirrors the intricate geometries of Ferrari engine components.
The industrial precision of Ferrari’s sandcast engine blocks is echoed in the baseplate’s metallic finish, while the microblasted bridges resemble the matte texture of Ferrari engine covers. Angular structures, raised ridges, and golden hexagonal screws pay homage to Ferrari’s engine craftsmanship.
Additionally, the barrel jewel setting is influenced by the clutch wheel of a V8 engine, and the skeletonized 30-minute totalizer on the dial mirrors the dominant tachometer in modern Ferrari dashboards.
An Engine of Extremes
The RM 43-01 calibre took three years to develop, focusing on lightweight construction and mechanical efficiency. Built on a highly skeletonized grade 5 titanium baseplate, its bridges are made from titanium and Carbon TPT®, ensuring structural integrity.
The movement delivers a 70-hour power reserve, displayed at 2 o’clock on a 5N PVD titanium dial, alongside a torque indicator and a function selector, reflecting Ferrari’s precision engineering approach.
A notable feature is the off-centre tourbillon escapement with a titanium carriage, combined with an active seconds display using five radial blades synchronized with a 12-second index. Richard Mille introduced multiple refinements to the split-seconds mechanism, optimizing power consumption and ensuring consistent torque levels through advanced R&D and computer simulations.
Every component of the RM 43-01 Ferrari is engineered with performance in mind, undergoing extensive shock testing and simulations to meet Richard Mille’s uncompromising standards.
This timepiece is a true homage to Ferrari’s legacy, exemplifying the fusion of automotive and horological excellence where aesthetics and innovation converge.
