Rolex Becomes Official Timekeeper and Timepiece for Formula 1™

17 March 2013

By Scott Campbell

Rolex announced its major long-term partner of Formula 1 from 2013 as Official Timekeeper and Official Timepiece,  reinforcing its commitment to motor racing and its support of global sport at the very highest level.

The title sponsor of the 2013 Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix unveiled the new Rolex pit lane clock at the Albert Park circuit on Thursday ahead of the race weekend.

The iconic clock face on a pit lane gantry has been specially designed and created to be present at all 19 Formula One races through the year. It forms the centrepiece of Rolex’s new presence around the circuit at each Grand Prix, which also includes on-track visibility such as bridges carrying the distinctive Rolex brand logo.

Rolex clocks are already seen worldwide at more than 150 prestigious sporting events, including tennis, golf, sailing and equestrian competitions.

Arnaud Boetsch, Communication & Image Director of Rolex SA said: "This is a historic moment for Rolex as we commence a very exciting and fascinating partnership with Formula One.

The shared values between Formula One and Rolex are strong and our pit lane clock symbolizes the concept of precision, quality, high performance and the pursuit of excellence on a global stage.

Sir Jackie Stewart OBE, Rolex Testimonee, said: "Having worked with Rolex for 45 years it is wonderful to be with them today here in Australia.

I felt quite emotional when I saw the clock and the crown logos around the track. It feels so natural for Rolex to be part of Formula One.

Australian Grand Prix Corporation Chairman, Ronald J Walker AC CBE, said: "It’s an absolute delight and honour to welcome Rolex to Melbourne. We are very proud to have Rolex as our Title Sponsor and I’m very much looking forward to an exciting weekend of racing as the 2013 season gets underway."

Bernie Ecclestone, CEO of the Formula One Management, said: "It is superb to have Rolex with us for the first time and nice to see a prestigious brand so strongly represented around the circuit. We welcome them to the Formula One family and look forward to a long partnership.”

Rolex has a time-honoured passion for motor racing and speed, stretching back to the 1930s, and plays an active role in nurturing the highest standards in all the sports it is associated with.

For Rolex, forging a global partnership with the pinnacle of motorsport as Formula One racing enters a new era and is a natural fit. For more information, go to //senat.us/rolexf1
