What the Nobel Laureates Receive
The highlight of the Nobel Prize Award Ceremony in Stockholm is when each Nobel Laureate steps forward to receive the Nobel Prize from the hands of His Majesty the King of Sweden. In Oslo, the Chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee presents the Nobel Peace Prize in the presence of the King of Norway. Under the eyes of a watching world, the Nobel Laureate receives three things: a Nobel Prize Diploma, a Nobel Prize Medal and a document confirming the Nobel Prize Amount (Swedish Kronas SEK 10 million ~ over USD 1 million)

The Programme for Nobel Week
The Nobel Laureates can look forward to a week of scientific and cultural events, culminating in the Nobel Prize Award Ceremony and the Nobel Banquet on December 10. The Nobel Peace Prize will be awarded on the same day in Oslo.

The Nobel Week will begin with a visit to the Nobel Museum in the old Stock Exchange building in Stockholm's Old Town. On December 7 and 8, the Laureates will then deliver their Nobel Lectures. The lectures will be held in the Aula Magna at Stockholm University (Physics, Chemistry and Economic Sciences), in the Jacob Berzelius Lecture Hall at Karolinska Institutet (Physiology and Medicine) and at the Swedish Academy (Literature).

During the week, the Nobel Prize awarding institutions – the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, the Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institutet and the Swedish Academy – as well as the Nobel Foundation will host a series of events where the Nobel Laureates will have the opportunity to meet colleagues in various fields of activity.

On December 8 – for the fifth consecutive year – Nobel Media AB, in partnership with the Stockholm Concert Hall, is organising the Nobel Prize Concert, where this year's soloist is Martha Argerich. Yuri Temirkanov, Music Director and Principal Conductor of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, will lead the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. The programme comprises Ravel's Piano Concerto in G Major and Prokofiev's Suite from Romeo and Juliet.

The Nobel Day, December 10, will begin with the traditional Nobel Prize Award Ceremony at the Stockholm Concert Hall, where the Laureates will receive their Nobel Medals and Nobel diplomas. The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of maestro Michael Bartosch, will provide musical interludes. The soloist will be Mira Pyne, soprano.

The Nobel Banquet at the Stockholm City Hall will follow. Here the guests will enjoy the 2009 Nobel menu as well as a divertissement performed by the Romeo & Juliet Choir. The Nobel Prize Award Ceremony and the Nobel Banquet will be broadcasted live on Swedish Television (Sveriges Television).

The official Nobel Week programme will conclude on December 12 with individual visits by the Nobel Laureates to the Nobel Foundation.

All Nobel Lectures will be broadcasted live on Nobelprize.org and will also be available on the same website as video on-demand at a later date.

The ceremonies in Oslo and Stockholm will be broadcasted live on Nobelprize.org starting at 1.00 p.m. and 4.30 p.m., respectively, on December 10.
