By Men's Journal Online | 26 June 2014

A highlight of Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week Ready to Wear 2014, fashion designer Joe Chia entitled his fall/winter 2014 collection ‘In the Name of Liberty’, sent his man down the runway with tailored coats and jacket, deriving the season’s eccentric inspiration from the military.

Drawing inspiration from world violence, Joe Chia Chapter 04 is the ideology of deliverance, powered by layers of soul, with the composition of culture, tradition and the street, which articulated through an abridged palette of black, grey and dusty blue.

“It’s a different message which we wish to portray even as we are inspired by military elements. It’s a new uniform for all of us. This collection is about peace, making love instead of war. The realization that violence does not solve issues and changes start from us”, said Joe Chia.

Looking to past military references to inform the collection’s direction, Joe obsessed over the raglan sleeves which leaned around the shoulders, dropped crotch pants added volume and elbow structured sleeves which embellished the men’s silhouettes to eccentric effect. Despite an unorthodox approach to the season, Joe provided wearable pieces as always, including tapered pleated trousers, long oversize coats and other essentials came together with neoprene and nylon textured.
