ZENITH Chronomaster Original Triple Calendar - blending historical inspiration and modern technology.
By SENATUS Magazine | 2 August 2024

The ZENITH Chronomaster Original Triple Calendar marks a significant comeback with a design that blends historical inspiration and modern technology. This iconic watch, a key variation of the El Primero for over 50 years, is known for its clear display. The latest model combines the high-performance El Primero automatic high-frequency chronograph with a triple calendar and moon phase, all in a compact design reminiscent of the Chronomaster line.

The development of this watch traces back 55 years, with its roots in the original El Primero launched in 1969, which was designed to include triple calendar and moon phase functions. Although 25 prototypes were made in 1970, the full launch of the triple calendar version was delayed due to the success of the basic chronograph model.

The Chronomaster Original Triple Calendar stands out in the Chronomaster collection for its versatility and functionality. It features a 1/10th of a second chronograph, a full calendar that is easy to read, symmetrically positioned windows for the days and months, a date window at 4:30, and a moonphase display at 6 o’clock.

The watch’s 38mm steel case is based on the 1969 A386 model, maintaining its original proportions despite the integration of complex functions. It is available in two dial versions: a “panda” silver opaline dial with black counters, a slate-grey dial with silvery-white counters, both featuring rose gold-tone markers and hands, and a moon set against a blue sunray-patterned disk. There is also a boutique-only edition with a sunburst olive-green dial.

The El Primero 3610 calibre operates at 5 Hz, offering a 1/10th of a second chronograph function and a 60-hour power reserve, even with the additional calendar functions. The sapphire display back showcases the movement.

The watch is available with either a steel bracelet or a calfskin strap, with strap colors coordinated with the different dial versions.
